Established in November 2010, the HKUST Convocation serves as a platform for engaging alumni in university development. Its scope of work includes:
- Promote goodwill among members of the Convocation and between the Convocation and the University.
- Provide alumni with insights into HKUST's vision and progress.
- Foster stronger connections between HKUST and the broader community.
- Support fundraising initiatives.
- Promote HKUST's objectives and activities.

All HKUST degree graduates are members of the Convocation, which is governed by a nine-person Standing Committee elected by alumni. They meet regularly with university management and students to foster communication and collaboration.
The Chairman of the Convocation Standing Committee, elected by its members, represents alumni on the University Council, participates in key university events and serves on various committees including the Campus Development Committee.
