About Convocation
The HKUST Convocation as a component of the University is created by section 17 of the HKUST Ordinance (Chapter 1141 of the Laws of Hong Kong). In November 2010, the University Council has approved the formation of the HKUST Convocation with its Statute, Constitution and Rules. According to the Constitution, all degree graduates of HKUST are members of the Convocation.
The HKUST Convocation serves as a platform for engaging alumni in university development. Its scope of work includes:
- promoting goodwill among members of the Convocation and between the Convocation and the University;
- providing alumni with insights into HKUST's vision and progress;
- fostering stronger connections between HKUST and the broader community;
- supporting fundraising initiatives;
- promoting HKUST's objectives and activities.
Membership
The Convocation shall consist of the following members:
- Individuals who have been awarded an honorary degree or honorary fellowship by the University;
- Graduates who have received an academic award at the degree or postgraduate diploma level from the University;
- Persons designated by the University Council.
Standing Committee
The Standing Committee is the executive body of the Convocation. It consists of:
- 9 members elected by the Convocation; and
- the immediate past Chairman of the Convocation, serving a full term.
Each member of the Standing Committee shall serve for a term of 2 years, commencing 1st April following their election. They are eligible for re-election. The past Chairman is eligible for re-election except for those who have served two consecutive full terms as Chairman.
