Claudia Sin
First Officer
Cathay Dragon
BEng(CIVL)

Claudia is a First Officer with Cathay Dragon (formerly Hong Kong Dragon Airlines) where she operates A330 Airbus aircraft.

Claudia mapped out her career path when she was 15 years old, inspired by an article in the South China Morning Post about a female pilot. She chose civil engineering as her major as it included fluid mechanics which is related to aviation. In her second year at HKUST, she joined the Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps and received a scholarship from the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators to achieve her Private Pilot License (PPL) in Australia. On graduation, Claudia was accepted to the Dragonair Aviation Certificate Program (DACP) designed by Dragonair, becoming a cadet in 2008 and then a Dragonair pilot in 2010.

Claudia appreciates the problem-solving and analytical skills developed from her engineering studies as well as the benefits gained from the University’s international atmosphere. "My roommate was from Mainland China, and so I was able to improve my Putonghua skills which are now useful in my job.”

Claudia is married to fellow HKUST alumnus and Dragonair First Officer Freddy Lam. The couple met not on campus but rather at a flight training school in Adelaide where Claudia was taking her PPL and Freddy was on Dragonair's cadet pilot course.
