Despite its image as a cement forest, Hong Kong boasts a rich biodiversity. Biology alumnus Chung Tong is passionate about conserving the natural habitats for this great biodiversity, and currently serves as a Forestry Officer at Fisheries and Conservation Department. His contributions include publishing A Field Guide to the Terrestrial Mammals of Hong Kong to help raise the public's awareness and understanding of mammals, and discovering several new to Hong Kong species in the span of a few years.
Keen to encourage others to follow in his footsteps, Chung Tong has frequently shared his experiences with HKUST students in the past several years. "It is always my hope to develop a legion of mammal enthusiasts among the younger generation and thereby bringing up future mammal researchers to carry on our mission. As a Biology graduate, I appeal to the younger alumni to be the guardian of the lovely creatures," he says.
