AEF Sports Scholarships

We promote a culture of active living and sports participation, recognizing that athletics provides numerous physical, mental and social benefits - not only for the individual, but also for the wider community.

The AEF Sports Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional achievements and potential in regional or international competitions.  Recipients received between HK$10,000 - 50,000 to support their tuition, with the amount renewable for each new academic year. To date, this program has benefitted over 50 students, with a total allocation exceeding HK$3,400,000.

Students who have achieved exceptional performance in sports competitions, and a strong commitment to the sports community may qualify for this award. For further information about the scholarship and application details, please click here.

The cumulative donations received from alumni are treated as the principal, which remains preserved in perpetuity, with only the income from investments utilized.  This ensures that AEF provides a consistent and sustainable source of funding to support top-priority initiatives that enrich students’ university life.

With your generous donation, we can significantly expand our scholarship program, enabling more students to pursue their athletic dreams and fostering a vibrant sports community. This will help promote a well-rounded lifestyle for all.

To make a direct donation, please use our online form. Your generous contribution is eligible for tax deductions. Alumni wishing to support HKUST with their United States-based assets  can also enjoy tax benefits by donating through our non-profit partner Give2Asia. Please visit https://give2asia.org/hkust.

Before entering university, I was a part-time athlete with the Hong Kong Sports Institute of WuShu (Chinese martial arts) specializing in Tai Chi. There, I trained 6 days a week, four to five hours per day. I chose HKUST for its holistic approach to education, which genuinely concerns about  the well-being of athletes. The University encourages students to engage in sports and extra-curricular activities, creating a supportive environment that made me feel at home.
