Calvin Or

Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering The University of Hong Kong
BEng(IETM)

Calvin's interest in research was sparked during his first research study experience in the Final Year Project of his undergraduate studies at HKUST. He later went on to complete his masters and doctoral degrees in the USA, after which he returned to Hong Kong to pursue a career in academia.

After some time as an Assistant Professor at the City University of Hong Kong, Calvin went on to join the University of Hong Kong. His current research focuses on the use of health information technology (IT) for chronic disease care and the applications of human factors to healthcare safety and quality. Calvin also serves in a number of professional organizations including the Hong Kong Ergonomics Society, the Occupational Safety and Health Council Hong Kong, and the Vocational Training Council.

With his keen appetite to find evidence to support hypotheses and to prove things, it is no wonder that Calvin delights in his work. Some of his studies are related to human behaviors, and he is fascinated by the reasons behind why humans act in certain ways. He also enjoys sharing his research work with the scientific community. Some of his studies are applied research related to the use of health IT, and it gives him great pleasure to develop health IT that is useful and meaningful to the community.

Calvin looks back fondly on his HKUST days, and has high praises for the top-notch quality of his teachers as well as the beautiful and modern HKUST campus, which always invokes in him the feelings of being young and energetic.
