As the Vice President of an impact investing capital firm focusing on China and Hong Kong, Carmen leads her team in selecting top-tier social enterprises in China and bridging them to the international capital markets. She also advises institutional investors and family offices on impact investing – investments that generate a measurable, beneficial social or environmental impact alongside a financial return.
In addition to her full time profession, Carmen also co-founded Finance for Hope, a section 88 charity that provides business and finance advisory to non-profit organizations. It also holds mentoring programs for secondary school students, helping the youths to develop a sense of responsibility and the right mindset towards money and finance.
With a background in finance and a passion for making social impact, Carmen sees it as her life’s goal to promote impact investing as an asset class for all. She often holds roundtables with professionals such as policy makers, investment bankers, non-profit organizations, social entrepreneurs and investors, encouraging them to be innovative in solving social problems. She firmly believes that all parties can together create a multi-win solution, and ensure sustainable and substantial social changes.
Carmen believes that HKUST has done a lot for her, and she would like to contribute back to her alma mater. When asked about her advice to students, she said, “Don't stop looking for what you love. The opposite of success is not failure; it's not trying.”
