BETTER IS ALWAYS POSSIBLE
Helming numerous corporations over a professional career that spans over two decades, Daisy has managed to stay on top of both her businesses and the significant responsibilities she held as President of the Lions Club of Center Point HKSAR from 2019-2020. How does she continue to flourish in her many roles despite the massive changes she’s seen in her field of IT?
“I really have to thank HKUST for how I’ve been able to succeed in life,” Daisy says. A mathematics graduate with a minor in business and management, she often took seven to eight courses at a time and competed for the university’s dragon boat racing team. Daisy underwent a truly intensive experience as a university student and it was at HKUST where she began mastering the time management and multitasking abilities that she’s been able to use to benefit her businesses and society at large.
Like many HKUST alumni, Daisy always has an eye on the bigger picture. “Over time I realized corporate culture and taking care of my staff made a huge difference for everyone in my businesses.” When Daisy first started work, she was laser focused on sales and marketing in a bid to maximize revenues and profits; she later realized investing hours and days in training her employees made everyone more productive over the long run. Today, at every one of the companies she leads, Daisy encourages staff to nurture their family bonds and spend time volunteering to help Hong Kong society.
Daisy’s desire to contribute meaningful benefits to the local community led her to another one of her big passions: the Lions Club International. Having held the role of President of the Lions Club Of Center Point HKSAR from of 2019-2020, Daisy explains what’s so special about this global service organization: “Our society has a lot of problems and challenges that can’t be tackled by just one individual or organization alone. By marshaling the considerable pooled resource of our members we can do so much more.” She gives one salient example: hiring special needs student graduates. Up to 60 to 70 percent of these graduates end up unemployed, but thanks to the efforts of her Lions Club district, members hire these hard working young people to perform tasks that help free up resources for existing workers.
This is just a snapshot of the power and impact of Daisy’s infectious enthusiasm and boundless energy to do better for herself and Hong Kong as a whole; truly an exemplar of the HKUST spirit as we celebrate our 30th anniversary.
