Partner and Greater China Risk Leader

Ernst & Young (China) Advisory Limited

Sunny has been stationed in the Mainland since 2001, first in Shenzhen and Shanghai and now in Beijing where he is Partner and Greater China Risk Leader at Ernst & Young, one of the Big Four audit firms. At the beginning, Sunny faced many challenges while working on the Mainland, the biggest of which were learning to speak Mandarin and adapting to the way people on the Mainland do business. Luckily, Sunny loves learning new languages and has seen many changes in China over the past decade. He notes that Mainland companies are now more acceptable to international ideas and good corporate governance.

Sunny looks back gratefully on his time at HKUST as it helped lay the foundation for his desire to work outside of Hong Kong. "We had a lot of professors from other parts of the world. This instilled in us the idea of thinking globally and enabled us to accept different cultures and nationalities," he says. Sunny strives to give back to his alma mater by propelling the momentum of growth and mutual help among accounting graduates. He founded the Accounting Alumni Association over a decade ago, and seizes every opportunity to take part in mentoring and advisory sessions with students and alumni whenever he is back in Hong Kong.
