Mingyu has shown great interest in Robotics since his childhood, and in fact one of the robots he made in high school is now showcased in the City Museum of Shenzhen.
Mingyu obtained his bachelor and MPhil degrees in Electronic Engineering from HKUST in 2009 and 2012 respectively. During his time as an MPhil student in 2010, he founded his own company, Zhuhai Yunzhou Intelligence Tech., based on his final year research project "GPS Robotic Water Analyzer". As a student, Mingyu won numerous local and national prizes including the gold award of the HKUST President's Cup, and was the first in China to focus on utilizing unmanned boats for water monitoring and sampling.
Mingyu joined DJI in 2012 and founded the camera team and served as the product manager of the Phantom 2 Vision and Phantom 2 Vision+. He was promoted to Vice President of Research & Development (RD) in 2015. His main duty is to lead the direction of the entire RD team of more than 1,000 people.
When asked about his life's goal, Mingyu replied that he is a person who really wants to change the world. "I found my time studying at UST incredibly fruitful: apart from completing dozens of course projects and going abroad for exchange, I also participated in different robotic competitions and conducted research in different labs. After interning at three different companies, I decided to start my own company. All of these experiences have shaped me into who I am now.”
