Wesley began his career with Xinyi Glass (信義玻璃), a China-based company specializing in automotive glass and smaller volumes of architectural glass. He oversaw export sales and finance, and watched the company grow steadily over the next few years. Xinyi Glass listed in Hong Kong in 2005, and in the following year established a subsidiary company, Xinyi Solar (信義光能). To optimize business growth, Wesley led the spin-off of the solar business and Xinyi Solar, now the largest PV glass manufacturer in the world with a 20% market share, was listed in 2013.
Xinyi Solar had a tough start due to market uncertainties: solar energy requires big investment in terms of production, but banks were not lending because of the global financial crisis. Then the solar market crashed in 2011 due to oversupply. Despite the rocky beginning, however, the company pulled through thanks to Xinyi's solid background in glass manufacturing technologies, its strong corporate culture of teamwork, and the development of its own solar farms. Today, the company has two production bases in Wuhu and Tianjin, producing a combined total of 2,900 tons of solar PV glass.
Under Wesley's leadership, Xinyi Solar attained various international accreditations in recognition of its production and management excellence. It also obtained numerous patents and technical achievements which led to the winning of awards, including the 2011 National Science Technology Progress Award (2nd Class). More recently, he was named in the Young Industrialist of the Year Award 2014 by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries.
