Having been a keen photographer since he was a teenage, Terence made a life-changing decision to follow his dream and become a professional photographer, after working in IT for a decade. At the beginning, his studio mainly focused on wedding photography. With his strong passion and talent, he has made a name for himself shortly and has since then been receiving a number of local and international awards for his work.
Today, the profile of Terence is getting much more diverse beyond wedding photography – he is a renowned commercial portrait and graphic photographer for many large corporations, and his work now extends to photography tutoring and photojournalism. On top of these, he has also taken a step into the film industry as a director when his debut documentary《靠近海》was released and recorded in the film《長洲誌》, which later became the opening film at the 2013 China Documentary Festival.
In December 2017 and November 2018, Terence staged his exhibition "Girl Improvise Series", a recollection of his 10-year fruitful journey in photography, at Jao Tsung-I Academy and HKUST respectively. "Every photo is a story as well as a starting point for understanding. Every time when I take pictures of a girl, it just likes a process of listening to her story behind. The photo is a by-product to jot a note during my journey of creativity", says Terence.
His advice for alumni and students who are considering chasing their dreams is that they must have a passion for what they want to do, and to do what they love. "I always recall a script from 3 Idiots saying 'pursue excellence, and success will follow.' I also like Steve Jobs' famous quote 'stay hungry, stay foolish.' That is also about being passionate, and about accepting that things change. You need to be open minded. Knowledge from today may not be correct tomorrow," he says.
