Patrick Fan’s wits and preparation has positioned beNovelty perfectly in recent years. The Covid-19 pandemic drastically boosted demand for digitalization across multiple industries, where beNovelty’s API (Application Programming Interface) solutions can be easily adapted for use in just about any major platform that’s in use today. This helped the company weather the pandemic as certain past potential users of API are being accelerated.
Just like many other entrepreneurs we have profiled, Patrick owes much to HKUST. “Whether it was the professors in my CPEG program (Patrick graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering in 2007) and especially the hands-on projects, I was exposed to a broad range of knowledge that was also highly practical,” Patrick said.
Prior to launching beNovelty, Patrick was at IBM for a decade - coming from a traditional multinational tech company, he learned the importance of enterprise process & governance, but at the same time Patrick also eventually felt constricted by having to adhere to certain methodologies to tackle new type of problems. With the experience he accrued working on Cloud & API technologies at IBM, Patrick took the leap and founded beNovelty during 2015.Under the leadership of its founder and CEO, beNovelty has racked up numerous awards and industry recognition, including two times Hong Kong ICT Startup Awards (2020 & 2016), HKSTP Leading Enterprises Acceleration Programme (2020) and the IFTA Fintech Achievement Award (also 2020). The company’s local business story has also been featured by HSBC in 2021.
