London Calling

A HKUST London alumni drinks reception on October 8 was held with the HKUST delegation led by Provost Prof. Yike Guo and other members of the senior management. The joyous occasion for the London alumni community fostered connections and allowed them to keep up with latest developments. There have been other happy hour and lunch gatherings organized by our London alumni to savor as well.



Keeping Up Canadian Ties

The Ontario Alumni Chapter has kept itself very busy with events including hiking to Mount Nemo on August 5; a trip to Collingwood on September 2; downtown boardgame sessions on October 14; the Hong Kong Joint Universities Alumni (Ontario) – Mini Sports Day & Dinner 2023 on October 21; a visit to Prof. Stephen Lee’s home on November 11, and a visit to alumnus Prof. Patrick Hung's lab to explore groundbreaking projects such as climatic aerodynamic wind tunnels on November 20. Go Canada!

Cali Classics

The Northern California Alumni Chapter has held many events this year. These include boating at Mountain View Shoreline Park on June 24, with sport and food. There was also a BBQ in Sunnyvale on September 23, with great food, friends, drinks, and team games.

The Thunder Down Under

Our alumni in Sydney kept things interesting with a range of events including a dinner gathering with Prof. Yang Wang, Vice-President for Institutional Advancement; and Prof. Hong Lo, Dean of Engineering on September 26. In addition to this, Zoom gatherings were held regularly to meet and greet newcomers to Australia, and alumni paddlers joined the Sydney Tsunami Dragon Boat Open Day on October 21.



Midnight in Paris

A dinner gathering was held on October 11 with a HKUST delegation led by the senior management including Dr. Alison Elizabeth Lloyd, Associate Provost (Institutional Data and Research); Prof. Hong Lo, Dean of Engineering; and Prof. Kar Yan Tam, Dean of Business and Management. The event was marked with engaging conversation and a delightful atmosphere.



Mid-Autumn Joy in Singapore

The Singapore Alumni Chapter made the night come alive with a 2023 Hong Kong Joint-U Mid-Autumn Festival Dinner on September 23. A wonderful HKUST mixer was also held at the VIBE Bistro Raffles Place on July 26, along with a monthly drinks gathering on August 29. A trial walk at Thomson Nature Park on October 22 and a HKUST mixer at SOS Bar Restaurant on October 25 also raised excitement.

Shenzhen Alumni: Assemble!

Across the world, our alumni are always active and ready for the next activity. The Shenzhen Alumni Chapter is no different, with a recent sharing session for new students, in addition to the Pingshan sports day; a University Alliance exploration of Longgang; and a frisbee tournament. The excitement never stops! We also held a range of badminton and football games, an exchange activity, Red Bird Class employment and entrepreneurship sharing, along with a lecture by the Expert Talent Federation. To finish off an amazing year, the Association organized the Maluan Mountain orienteering competition and College League Golf Tournament.

From Beijing with Love

The Beijing Alumni Chapter has held several events of late, including a Baidu artificial intelligence discovery tour with alumni, relatives, and friends on August 29, with technologies showcased, experts sharing their knowledge, and alumni wowed by developments. Baidu smart cloud experts also introduced the impact of AI smart technology on the industry and future development, and three artificial intelligence expert representatives from HKUST shared their experience and insights. There was also a wine tasting event on October 21; and a keynote talk on Financial Technology and Digital Currency alongside an alumni get-together held by HKUST Business School on October 29.

Super in Shanghai

With a wide range of activities, the Shanghai Alumni Chapter is keeping busy. These include a seminar on ChatGPT and AI Application in Business on June 1; badminton plus Guyi Garden tour gathering on June 11; "Start with Talent and End with Advantage” book club activity on June 18; road bike experience day on July 8; seminar on Hong Kong Talent Program and Opening Ceremony of HKUST Shanghai Alumni Association OCEA Friendship Centre on July 22; single alumni networking event on August 5; Wing Chun experience party on August 19; Visit to Tesla Shanghai GIGA Factory Museum on September 8: “Dash to Mars” talk on September 24; and Muay Thai experience activity on October 21. To top this all, HKUST Business School held a forum entitled "Business Revolution in the Digital Age: Technological Innovation Opens up New Business Opportunities" on October 27. After the forum, alumni attended a dinner party led by Provost Prof. Yike Guo and Dean of Business and Management Prof. Kar Yan Tam, with 300 alumni attendees.
