I like to MOVE IT MOVE IT
Ronald Ng is an HKUST civil engineering graduate. He is currently the founding CEO of MOVE IT MOVE IT, an one-stop AI logistics platform that connects people who need to move with logistic companies.
The next-gen home and office moving solution
With MOVE IT MOVE IT's system, a user would just need to provide an address, and a photo or video of the furniture that needs to be moved on an app to get a detailed quotation right away.
“Our furniture recognition technology identifies items in the photos and videos a user provides. The system will then match the request with the list of registered service providers on our platform, saving the user’s hassles in searching for the right company,” explains Ronald.
It's economical and sustainable on a macro level, too
On the other hand, the logistics company can save time and get rid of the tedious steps of quoting door-to-door, hence allowing better resource allocation and higher transportation efficiency.
“We believe the next-gen moving service should be made easy and convenient for users, economical for moving companies, and sustainable for future generations and the planet,” envisions Ronald.
With its technology, the startup hopes to reduce carbon emissions in the industry by encouraging partnering logistics companies to adopt electric trucks, and by making more accurate estimations for each logistics job, hence shortening the travel distance of each logistics ride.
“We also actively work with the second-hand furniture market and relevant NGOs to reuse or recycle furniture discarded by clients during the moving process,” shares Ronald.
A deep-rooted connection with the industry
While Ronald studied civil engineering at HKUST, he is by no means a newcomer to the industry.
“My family operated a logistics business, hence I had exposure to many facets of our family business as a youth, from driving vans to managing events and liaising with partners and customers,” Ronald recalls.
“I want to promote the sustainable development of this traditional industry with which I have a long and deep-rooted connection.”
In less than a year, MOVE IT MOVE IT has already struck deals with major developers and a range of SMEs in Hong Kong. Yet despite his company’s rapid success, Ronald intends to establish its local presence before considering overseas expansion.
“While the business model is scalable and can be expanded overseas, adapting to a different business environment and culture would add a new layer of challenge,” Ronald shares. “And I hope to expand the geographical coverage of our service in the future to strengthen Hong Kong’s connections with the world.”
Getting well prepared for starting a business
Speaking of his master's experience at HKUST, Ronald is most grateful about the professional knowledge he’s gained, the invaluable networking opportunities, and an entrepreneurial spirit the university has instilled in him.
“The Master’s program has provided me with an all-round masters’ education in civil engineering, finance, management and problem-solving skills. All these have well prepared me for my entrepreneur career today.”
